The good reputation of music made in Finland was earned already a few decades ago. Giving anybody the responsibility of keeping such legacy would not be fair, yet it must be remarked that the talent which emerges in this faraway country is not afraid of challenge.

Cyan Kicks adds up to the promise of new blood which is demanded from the international music industry in the present day.

With only six years into their trajectory, these Helsinkians have built a steady fanbase. Just at the beginning of this year it increased its numbers even further when they earned the second place at a local contest which would determine Finland´s representative at Eurovision.

Even though “Hurricane”, a song created in collaboration with Elize Ryd from Amaranthe, did not reach the top tier of this competition, it did broaden the spotlight over their career.

The gig

On Sunday April 3rd, Susanna Alexandra (vocals), Niila Perkkiö (guitar), Leevi Erkkilä (bass) and Pietari Reijonen (drums) made an appearance at an iconic venue of the capital city: the Tavastia Club.

Fans of all ages showed up for the event. The most dedicated ones queued since early day and they defended their front row spots wrapped in blankets, to withstand the low temperatures from a Spring which has yet to come.

Cyan Kicks mixes rock, pop and electronic vibes into their sound, and this formula is their key to play for such a diverse audience. The young and refreshing image of the band enhances their proposal, and their attitude will undoubtedly contribute to take them wherever they wish to go.

This band is authentic.

Their commitment to their audience is real, it transcends the musical and it challenges these times in which hugging strangers puts you at risk. Making eye contact with your idol is one of those moments which you cannot forget for a long time, and the fans took this and other memories from an intense evening, within winks, handshakes, hugs, and a complicity of accomplished dreams from both, them and the artists.

The band’s visual presence adorns itself with their vocalist’s image. For this show she wore a zebra themed outfit, highlighted with an elegant coat, which disappeared in the middle of the setlist; this, to give freedom for jumping, singing lying on the floor and to be able to move from one end to the other of the stage to greet the fans which would not detach themselves from the scaffold.

The faces of the audience were full of joy and freedom and expressed a torrent of contained energy which at last was released through live music. There were also lots of faces in admiration in the front row, where shining gazes from young people with smiles that were held for the 60 minutes of concert length.

This is what music is about, this is the inspiration of which today’s generations are in need, the inspiration to create, the inspiration to believe.
